It was a long time since I did a tour like this, with all the features that I like the most: history and culture, abandoned places, paths to explore and never rode, arduous descents and climbs with impossible slopes. A stop in a small characteristic restaurant in the middle with home cooking, all in excellent company.
Cool and windy morning: we start uphill, however, and everything passes immediately. We head towards the Masso Delle Fanciulle, on the Cecina river, where you can swim in the summer while enjoying the fresh flowing waters. We followed the river by bike twice with many difficulties and got a little wet. We head towards the Rocca Sillana, a spectacular fortified settlement on a hill with a dense forest at about 600 meters above sea level.
After the well-deserved and lavish lunch, we saw the ruins of the San Michele Alle Formiche baths, a settlement dating back to the Middle Ages, where it is still possible to admire a room with a tub of sulphurous water … and you can smell it!
We then cross the small town of Micciano, also located in a panoramic place and then we head towards the last stop at the Ginori castle in Querceto…Simply outstanding. Among these paths you climb up and discover very wild places. Finally, we return to the car against the wind, exhausted from the time but happy.
