Egan Bernal’s accident during cycling training on the road affects us deeply. Daccordi has been linked for years to the successes of Colombian cyclists who used to seek their fortune in Europe. These guys who landed in Italy often competed on Daccordi bikes, thanks to the partnership with Gianni Savio and Selle Italia.
For a craftsmanship company like Daccordi, it was an excellent partnership, which lasted for several years, and then stopped with the advent of the Pro Tour, later called World Tour, which increased the costs of cycling tenfold. It is often overlooked, but in fact, the new regulations introduced by the UCI have significantly increased the expenses for organizers and teams. For this reason, we find ourselves today to see cycling often located in rich countries such as the United Arab Emirates, despite the poor cycling culture of these nations. On the other hand, cycling culture is very strong in Colombia and South America in general, where very talented athletes train and compete. Those who have tried their luck in Europe have always made fans fall in love. Among these now “ex”, Colombian cyclists who have given us so much over the years of activity, we want to remember Fredy Gonzales, green jersey – king of the mountains – at the Giro d’Italia 2001 with our bikes. We still keep a giant photo of Fredy in our showroom in Tuscany.
